Nagpur has joined the cluster of those few privileged cities which can boast of the best possible medical aid and healthcare facilities in almost every arena. And when it comes to advanced dental surgery, the city is all ready and poised to score some extra marks with techniques like Multi-Purpose Dental Implant available right here.
Through this highly sophisticated technique, some of the leading dental surgeons are giving new hope to those who have lost one or all the teeth due to old age, ailment or an unfortunate mishap.
How does this implant work?
Informs city’s leading consulting dental surgeon and prosthodontist, Dr Harish Rathi, “A dental implant is an artificial tooth root that a dental surgeon places into your jaw to hold a replacement tooth or bridge. Dental implants are an ideal option for people in good general oral health who have lost a tooth or teeth due to periodontal disease, an injury, or some other reason. While high-tech in nature, dental implants are actually more tooth-saving than traditional bridgework, since implants do not rely on neighbouring teeth for support.”
He adds, “Dental implants are so natural-looking and feeling, you may forget you ever lost a tooth. Through this technique dentures are fixed using three screws, using press buttons. The implants are made of titanium and they last throughout.”
What is so special about these implants?
Says, well known implantologist and dental surgeon, Dr Rashmi Jawade, “Those who have lost all the teeth, often claim that the denture gets loose and feels alien because it never stays in place. Through the implant we fix press the denture into the gums.”
Does the metal hurt the gums in the long run?
“Titanium is a completely bio-compatible metal. And it brings no harm to gums. In fact it is completely safe,” opines, Dr Rathi.
This wonderful technique doesn’t come cheap. Each screw costs anything between Rs 10,000 and Rs 25,000 and three screws can make you lighter by Rs 30,000 to Rs 75,000. But experts claim that you get almost ‘as good as new kind of feel’, which makes the new technique so important, despite the exorbitant cost. Needless to say, only the upper crust of the city can afford it. And if you want to make them permanent, more screws have to be added.
Why such high cost?
“These screws are manufactures in US, Germany, Holland and a few other countries. Hence, they are very expensive,” informs dental surgeon, Dr Pravin Lambade and adds, “this technique and its related equipment is available at very few dental clinics and hospitals.”
