Gudi Padwa is definitely a big festival for us but it is not celebrated on a very grand scale! The Gudi has to be put up before the sunrise, dressed in a silk saree and adorned with gathi and saffron dhwaj. Usually we prepare shreekhand and puri on this occasion. In fact that is the main course. In front of this combination, everything else pales into insignificance. We are not very daal people but masala bhaat will be served. And of course saar-prepared with tomatoes, coconut-will be there. Something fried like bhajiye will also be there.
Neeta Kale
We usually have a get-together at my brother-in-law’s place. We all make a dish each and share the meal. I will be making shreekhand and puri and my sister-in-law is going to make basundhi. Gilke ke bhajiye will be an added attraction. In fact, it is going to be a typical Maharashtrian meal. Aloo ki bhaaji is going to be an integral part of the menu. And of course masala bhaat is mandatory too! Kadu neem chatni is definitely going to be a part of the menu because it is supposed to be a blood purifier!
Jayantee Ghatate
For us it’s a strictly family affair! Usually we make puran poli. And of course vada-bhaat will be there, along with a few vegetables cooked in our traditional style. Koshimbir, tamarind chatni add some pizzazz to the menu. Kadu neem chatni is especially prepared on this occasion for naivedya. And of course, we will be preparing panchamrut. Very simple yet traditional menu adds to the beauty of the occasion.
Sanyogita Dhanwatay
My son has recently got married and this will be the first Gudi Padwa of my daughter-in-law. Obviously, it is going to a very special day which will be celebrated along with family and very close friends. We are preparing panch pakwaan--shreekhand, kesari bhaat, puran poli, karanji and chirote. Then of course daal-bhaat, seasonal vegetables, patad bhaaji and bhajiye will be a part and parcel of the menu! In fact, we will make all those things that newly-weds would want to eat!
